My mechanic told me all six carbs are warped since gas seeps out between the carb body and float bowl. it seems surprising that all six would be warped. could it simply be as simple as gaskets or bad float bowls? everytime he tears down the carbs, cleans them, and reassembles them, i get one or two runs with the boat. after that, it will idle all day, but as soon as i put it in gear and try to throttle, it dies. he's tore down and reassembled the carbs four times and it happens the same every time. one or two good runs, then only idling in neutral. thanks for any info.

first off stop typing in bold - it hurts my eyes

second YES the bowls are plastic - which was one of those Why The F did they do that ? kinda of things, omc is famous for ... bear in mind the motor IS 25 years old and those plastic bowls have had to live in gas for all those years they most probably ARE warped has he replaced them each time or resurfaced them ?
if hes just resurfacing them and hes done this a few times then you MUST replace them as hes running out of sealing area and hense the reason you only get acouple of runs after a rebuild marineengine.com has your bowls for 15 bux each which is still 90 dollars for all six but its woth it if you are taking the thing in every month for a carb rebuild

Over-tightening the screws is what warps the bowl, someone cranked them down too tight and warped all of them.
You will see the corners of the bowls warp as the screws are cranked down too tight. A bit of common sense saves the bowls.

sorry about the bold, you're right. so you don't think its likely the carbs themselves are warped, just the bowls? like i mentioned previously, it seemed pretty unlikely all six would be warped. even thought they're plastic, the carb bodies are still quite a bit heavier than the bowls. the best i could find on marineengine.com was $34 so i'll keep looking around. thanks for the info.

Call Lockmans Hardware in Detroit. They have new and used parts for these motor. Ask for Doug or Dave. Dave is the owner and Doung is the son. They have a small grave yard out back they the pick from. Tell them Jeff the 225 guy sent you. They are online at http://www.lockemans.com/ They have been in buisness since the 1920's selling Evinrudes and Johnsons. They can order anything an get it in in a couple of days. Good guys to deal with. They are where I get all my parts from.
