These water pumps are simple.----There should be no need to replace parts multiple times !

Yes. Quite a mystery. Have you tried putting the impeller on the drive shaft with the impeller key in place, without the housing/cup, and visually watch it turn on the drive shaft? If it does, put a little finger resistance on the impeller fins and see if it still turns on the shaft. After that, I would grease up everything and then take the housing and cup and gently push down/lower it over the impeller as I turn the drive shaft in the right direction until it properly covers the impeller (that is how I install them anyway).

If all that goes well, drop it into a bucket of water and with a drill see if it pumps water.

With reference to item 29, you might simplify by testing the pump manually/semi-manually. If you test the assembly by turning the driveshaft clockwise by hand, you should feel friction from the turning pump if it's working. You can also get water bubbling up from the exit hole (where the tube goes). If you turn the shaft at higher rpm with a drill, you can determine if that is when slippage occurs (might indicate poor contact between the impeller and the shaft key). You would want to be sure the intake passage below the impeller are not blocked with mud or seaweed.

While the lower unit is removed, you can force water up the tube and see that it exits from the powerhead (use the garden hose, with the outlet size narrowed to about the size of the intake tube -- male portion of a quick release hose attachment comes close.) You should get water through the block even if cold, as the t.stat has a by-pass -- which could be blocked, by the way.
Thank you sir. I have done everything you have suggested.

Be clear.----Does the pump work with a drill ( impeller submerged ) in a bucket ?-----Does the tell tale pee , yes or no ?----Is the motor running hot ?

Yes Sir. I have tried all this. double and triple check to make sure the impeller is not slipping on the shaft or the rubber impeller is not slipping on the brass center.

Pump is not pumping water. First rebuild the motor got hot.
Several attempts to rebuild and reinstall indicated the pump was not pumping. Water hose attached to the water tube to check the cooling system showed no blockage. A good flow out the pee hole.

After several times of reinstalling the lower unit I learned I could test the pump with a drill. So much easier than installing the foot each time.

The various replacement of water pump components has made no difference.
I've been consoling with a local respected boat mechanic and he is clueless.

This why I have turn to this forum for help.

suggest you assemble the thing and try a lake run...

forget the rest till you do a real run
Thanks, but that would be to risky . If I can't get the pump to work in a water tank then I'm sure it wouldn't work in the lake.

Does water come out of the pump when testing with a drill , yes or no ??-----Answering questions can help you pinpoint the trouble !!----Has " consoling " with local dealer helped you ?----Did you buy factory parts from this dealer?-----I----Consulting the AMAZON clerk certainly does not help!

I have stated the answers to your questions already in the thread.
I have drill tested. I have consulted with a reputable mechanic.

I use only o.e.m. parts
Why you think I would consult an Amazon clerk is insulting!

This things seems to be defying the laws of physics and we know those are laws that don't like getting defied.

This is probably a really dumb question, especially since I think you said you have already changed pump housing components but is the little hole that goes from the impeller housing area to the grommet that holds the copper tube restricted in any way. Of course that dumb question has to be follow with its sister question, is the area from the water intake screen on the lower unit up to the impeller plate restricted or clogged with something restricting water from flowing up to the pump?

I mean if the water is getting up to the impeller in the pump housing, and the impeller is turning correctly in the housing, then water should be shooting out of that grommet. I am pretty sure thats the law.

I totally agree.. there is no blockage at the screen I just replaced it! No blockage in the impeller housing. Water is not restricted to the pump by way of the lower unit housing. I submerged and checked. I am flabbergasted!

Frustration appears to be building with this thread and request to close for a bit has been received. I'll do that, but would like to ask a clarification question first.

Post 11
Is the water in your testing bucket 6 / 8" above the impeller, yes or no ?
Post 13
I not submerging it that deep. A couple inches below water level.

The water pump needs to be covered, the impeller does not do much sucking, it just moves water that is present

Question; is the water level above the pump?

hence my request for a simple. if short duration lake test to properly submerge the pump but....

One last question in line with my others. I have never drill tested a water pump. I just install them and so far not had the kind of problems you are seeing. With drill testing I assume that you assemble the water pump. Submerge the lower unit into water, the level of which is well above the height of the pump and to observe it pumping water I assume you add a tube of some sort into the pumps output grommet so you can see the water pumping out of it above the water in the bucket.

If you are adding an additional tube for this test is it possible that the end of that tube is basing down onto the impeller base plate and therefore not allow water to enter it so that you can see it pumping out the other end. Or is this additonal water tube restricting water in some other way.
