I have an '86 70HP.
Mine I had to disconnect from port side with set screw.
It was right behind carb.
Get a long screwdriver / socket.
I didn't take screw out all the way. Just enough to slide shift lever out.
If you have a 2nd person, have them shift the controls while you watch it move.
