Primer solenoid ohms out at 3.5 and when I push the key in i hear it click and fuel comes out the side of the red kñob. It will start and run for a few seconds and die. Ive replaced all fuel lines, cleaned and rebuilt carburetor, replaced the main fuel line from fuel tank to quick connect. Replaced all quick connects. I rebuilt the primer solenoid with a upgraded kit. I took a primer solenoid off my other boat and it did the same thing. Leaks and starts and dies. Also backfired. If I start it and push the key in when it tries to die it will stay running as long as I keep pressing the key in. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Fact-----If you have to keep pushing the key in then there is an issue with the carburetor.----The primer valve put fuel into the engine.---This fuel bypasses the metering circuits in the carburetor.------Those primer valves are very well made , very reliable.----Likely just needs a new o-ring to fix the leak.

I bought a primer solenoid kit and it still leaks. I also took the ring off my other boats primer solenoid and same thing. It leaks when button is pressed. I inspected for cracks and I don't see any.

I did change the carburetor fuel lines that come off the solenoid with some clear green colored weed eater fuel lines

The reason I started to work on the motor was bc when I took the boat out on the lake it would start and run fine. But when I turn it off I had to keep starting it bc it would die right away. But I could start it and hurry up and engage the throttle and it would take off and run like a champ. But every time I turned it off I would have to do the same thing

Do you understand that the fuel that comes from the primer valve goes DIRECTLY into the motor ?----This fuel does not go into the carburetor bowl or through any metering jets.

What feeds the carburetor bowl?

A line from the fuel pump goes to the carburetor bowl.----And a line supplies fuel to the primer valve from the fuel pump.-----If that is not so then you know what the problem is.------Sort out the hoses.

Do you think I put the fuel line coming off the fuel pump on the primer instead of the carburetor bowl?

Sorry I can not see your motor.----Bring it over as I say this is easy to diagnose / fix.----The primer valve get fuel from the pump .----The carburetor bowl get fuel from the pump.---2 separate hoses.

I think I ran a mine from the big barb on the solenoid to the bottom barb on the carburetor.
I should have ran the fuel line coming off the fuel pump to the bottom of the carburetor. Correct me if I'm wrong please

Hi James,

According to the carburetor diagram at MarineEngine.com, your carburetor's fuel inlet appears to be on the lower port side of the carburetor.

According to the primer diagram, there is a tee (18) that appears to split fuel between the primer and the carburetor, and another tee (23) that appears to split primer fuel between what I'm going to guess are a pair of barbs on your intake manifold or crankcase.
