I have a 1986 Baja forcer 220 with a merc 5.7 thunderbolt IV electronic ignition. this year have had new plugs, wires, cap, button and carb all rebuild ( carb rebuilt by local reputable marine dealership). upon start up rans and purrs like a kitten once it gets up to operating temp it sputters out and dies. brought the boat back to the house hooked up hose and muffs and retested. same situation. we let the engine cool back down and started the process over again, this time watching the carb to make sure the choke was opening as it should and does. once the engine sputtered out and died we double checked and its getting plenty of juice. so we undid the wire coming from coil to cap and not getting any spark at this point in time. i am thinking ignition module is shutting down once we get up operating temp but could it be the coil doing the same? anybody have any ideas on this topic? i read thru a lot of the thunderbolt issues but didnt see any that seem to replicate my particular issue.

Next time you run it and it dies, follow the troubleshooting chart and check things out while they are warm.
