1986 AQ131/275 Drive shaft question. I replaced my u joints and seals. While making the repairs I wiggled the Drive Shaft. This is the shaft from flywheel to u/ joint fork. My question is how much play is in this shaft? Looking at parts breakdown I see a bearing. I'm wondering if mine is worn out. Can this shaft be pulled out? If I need to replace bearings and seals. Thanks for any help. Bob

Thanks Captmello, good info. I'm hoping this can all be done while still on the boat. Can you confirm this? Thanks again. Bob

1986 AQ131/275 Spindle#69 and Ball bearing #71 removal question. I made snap ring pliers and removed the 2 large snap rings and the small one. I can move Spindle and Ball Bearing in and out about a 1/4" but that is all. Any suggestions on how to pull these parts out. I don't want to damage anything.

It sounds like you've got all the clips out. You now need to simply pull the shaft straight out using something like a vice grip/slide hammer...but also being careful not to damage the splines on the shaft. You'll need to be creative...Sorry I have not done this myself, I've got the two bearing setup and had to pull my motor.

Again, don't damage the splines!

That 1/4" movement sounds a lot like the flex plate falling apart. Can you also turn the shaft CCW and CW any?

@ Don, No movement CCW or CW. @ Captmello I will try your idea with a slide hammer. I don't understand why they didn't Tap the end of the shaft. Sure would make things easier.

Well The shaft and bearing are out. I welded a slide hammer to a set of vice grips and tap tap tap everything came out. No damage to splines either. Thanks for all the help.
