Not getting fire on top cylinder, changed everything! Swapped everything on the bottom with everything on top side same thing. Idk what to do with this motor. I have a manual and looked it over and over. So now I'm left with asking the pros. Can someone tell me what I'm doing wrong?

If you swapped the CD modules and the problem persists, it is likely the problem is with the trigger ckt going to the top cylinder. Also check the brown wire from the #1 Cylinder CD mod is not grounding to anything. Or better yet while troubleshooting disconnect it from the terminal board. Here's a simplified wiring diagram. Since this is an 86 the top pics applies. FYI trigger ckt resistance is around 48~52 ohms on each ckt with output voltage of at least 0.5V while starting. Goodluck.

They started putting CD's on in 87.
Remove the flywheel and file/sand the points?
Do a compression test.

My bad. Anyways, here's the one with the points and condenser model. It seems the only parts swappable are the coils and plugs. So as suggested, you might want to investigate the points and condensers on the breaker plate. Of course, you can also swap the condensers if need to.

Checked the points, point gap, swapped condensers, coils and plug wires still same thing no fire on top side. Also checked checked wires for cracks everything looks good, I'm so confused....lol

I understand your initial post indicates no fire on top cylinder, can you relate how you came about with this diagnosis? It's not like we do not trust your troubleshooting but have you check compression and verify fuel mix is getting into the top cylinder? What were your compression readings?

Still no fix, testing each component, everything is good. The only thing I can find is when you turn the key on the top ignition coil gets hot the bottom is fine. Changed the coil and same thing. Any ideas??

Oh compression is 125 on each cylinder, and at this time I've been using a timing light to check.

FIXED !! Dirt and grime on the back side of the condenser terminal causing it to ground out. Keep your motors clean. :)
