I have a 86 4hp Evinrude that was in storage for a few years. I took the carb apart for cleaning and removed the low speed orifice from the high speed nozzle ( in the float bowl) and the orifice came out with a small diameter copper pipe attached. The upper part was twisted off and a piece was left in the throttle body. I soaked the carb in acetone and when I removed it to try and extract the broken piece it was gone obviously falling out during the soak. The piece left in the orifice came right out when I pulled on it so was not part of the orifice.
I ordered a new low speed orifice and high speed nozzle expecting the tube to be part of the orifice. The parts came without the tube and the parts diagrams do not show the tube either. I rebuilt the carb without the tube and the engine runs fine but does not idle below 1\4 throttle. It seems like it runs out of fuel. If I apply a little choke it will run at a high rpm idle so I am quite certain this is a fuel problem at idle. There is a similar size tube extending down from the top in the carb throat and is obviously a part of the low speed adjustment needle. Adjusting the needle does not help. My question is was the small diameter tube that broke off supposed to be there and if so how can I replace it?
