The only way I can get on plane is with the red lever on the primer solenoid is up. When it's down, it starts and idles, but to get on plane you have to idle a bit before it will get on plane. With the red lever up it will get on plane every time, but dies at idle when I let my foot off the hotfoot pedal. I changed the bowl gaskets on the carbs, although it seems the top of the carb and bowl aren't meeting up like they should. I've looked on here for similar problems, but I may not be searching correctly. :(

I was told to NOT run the motor with the primer valve in the up position as it could lead to piston failure. But with it down in the run position, she doesn't wanna get on plane unless you idle for a few mins. Everyone keeps telling me a carb problem or fuel supply problem. When I took the carb cover off, should there be gas all over the carbs? If not, I'm tracking down a leak.

Ok while you are idling with the choke lever in the down position get someone to pump the primer bulb and see if you can get on plane then, if you can your fuel pump may be going out.

Primer bulb stays hard. When I turn her off she softens up. Replaced it right after I got her because a few people suggested that to be the problem.

Read jwell's post again. That is not what he recommended. You missed his point.

Ok. The leak seems to be coming from the carbs where they meet the bowl on the bottom of the top part of the carb. I was told you could sand them down with 320 grit sandpaper till you get them level. They seem to be warped and wondered if ya'll would reccomend this or just buy new carbs.

If your bowls are warped replace them.

It doesn't just seem the bowls are warped, but the top part of the carb as well. I've looked at the Johnson website and says they're unavailable, but I CAN get the bowls.

Are you running with the airbox cover on or off?

Replacing the carbs tomorrow when they get in. Seems the warped ones are where they're leaking from. I also noticed when I push the choke on the key in, I can get on plane EVERY time and quick. So it has to be fuel starved from the leaks. Hopefully this will fix the issue. Will report back after they're changed and a test run made.
