1986 150 evinrude

have taken my boat out several times this yr. runs fine at times other times it is very sluggish. took it out 2 days ago as soon as it planed out it died. starts everytime idles fine just wouldn't run. took it out next day it and it ran fine. at full speed it starts to choke down a bit. could it be fuel filter or am i looking at carb problems. <br /><br />Thanks

Could be the filter and also the tank vent could be clogged.

Could also be the fuel pump. Not supplying sufficient volume to run full throttle.

I also have a '86 Evinrude XP150 that started "acting up" last year. I would look, find a fuel line leaking, fix it. Run great for a while then same thing. Look, find, replace fuel line (different one naturally). Got tired of the whole situation and replaced every darn fuel hose. Situation fixed till recently. Now the fuel tank switch valve is leaking (2 tanks with a manual valve). The whole process should end soon - running out of things to replace.
