After owning this motor for awhile now I have come to the conclusion that it is very loud. I have seen some cowls that have what appears to be an insulated hood I'm assuming for the purpose of cutting down on the noise. My 86' doe not have this insulation. Would it be ok to install one on my or would it make the motor run too hot?

They used to have a sound blanket in them.-----No and that will not make it run hot.----Did you install a new water pump impeller after you bought this motor ?---If not it is time to do so.

Yes I've had the motor since 2012 and have a new impeller ready to install soon. I didn't think it would make it run hot but just wanted to hear another opinion on it. I didn't want to burn it up (again). I might see if I can find one of those sound blankets as it is just too loud for me as is.

The engine is water cooled, not air cooled. I answered the blanket question elsewhere on today's forum www or on another which I frequent together with this one.

While the Engine is water cooled, the Switchboxes require air movement to keep from getting too hot. The Blanket, does smother them.
