Hello folks, i brought this boat pretty cheap $500 boat and trailer. Wanted and found a wahoo, so i have given myself 2 yrs to restore my boat, it needs alot. Question has anyone split the hull to make repairs? if it were a BW i would not even try, but i think the hull is only sealed at the top all the way around. I have no problem with hard work but i need to know if it is possible and the best way to do it. Why do i want to split the hull? holes in the bottom of the hull, replace the gas tank replace the transom and rewire the whole boat and make sure the self bailing system is up to snuff. dont mind a project but need a lil insight. any comments will help good, bad or different. Thanks:confused:

My research yielded this...

"This is my understanding of it. They started in Ashland Va, where they built several different models to compete DIRECTLY with Whaler and claimed to be better than Whaler, and unsinkable as well. Supposedly after they started to become popular and make a name for themselves the folks over at Whaler went after them legally for patent infringement, and after many years of expensive legal battles they became insolvent. Robalo ended up with the molds and produced some of the bigger ones under the Robalo name until Robalo was bought by Brunswick, and obviously being under the same company as Whaler, its fate seemed to be written. The last years of Wahoos built under their own name seems to be around 1997 .This is only my understanding, Im not sure about its complete accuracy

The main difference between Whaler and Wahoo from a construction standpoint is that Whalers are foam FILLED with no void between hull and deck and Wahoos are foam LINED with a void in between. As you probably know, there IS a bilge in the Wahoos, its just not one that can be accessed or used. The idea is that the foam WILL absorb moisture over time, but it has a way of draining out in the Wahoo through the bilge/stern drain plug, while the same is not true of the Whaler.

That of course is the constant argument of foam filled boats, whether the foam absorbs."

This would indicate that it is possible to "De-Capitate your boat. Not sure of the actual configuration below deck but It's NOT like the Whalers that are completely foam filled. Post some pics of your progress.

It's been more then 90days since Houston posted in this thread, until they re-post in this thread, it should be considered inactive & closed. That's what the big red banner across the bottom of the screen should have indicated.

Start a thread about your 14ft Wahoo, or PM Houston & ask if there's been any progress.
