Hello fellow boaters !

I recently bought a 1985 20' Searay Seville bowrider I/O found it on craigslist for $300.00 trailer and all. No Motor and No drive but I do have the transom assembly. I purposly bought this boat to be a project (what can I say I love bringing things back to life) Ive been around boats all my life mainly Jet Boats me and my father have done it all in that catagory a 1979 Sleekcraft with a jacuzzi pump and a 455 olds, a 1980 Manta Ray with a 454 Chevy Berkley pump, and our last one a 2002 Warhawk tunnel with a 540 supercharged and intercooled with a berkley pump. Well now that my dads gotten older he likes to go out on his nautaline houseboat . So I figured it was time to venture out on my own so I bought the searay got it home and tore all the carpet and interior out of it saved most of the front bow cushions and engine cover to be rebuild and new upholstery down the road. For the most part the decking is really solid but the skilocker when I got it was full of water ! Ill know more after I cut the decking out of the bow section but my question is are the ski lockers normally sealed from the front stringers or can I go ahead and plan on replacing the stringers ? I pumped 8 gallons via wet vac and still not even a dent Im hoping that the water as pretty muched stayed conatined to the ski locker. Also as im looking for motors to rebuild to put in this thing anyone know what motors came in the seville ? I would really love to do a 350 with a Alpha drive but I wondering is that gonna be to much wait for this little boat ?

Planning on tackling more this weekend im taking out the seat boxes that used to hold the back to back besides just taking my saw-zall to the bases is there anything I should worry about when taking these things out ? Also does anyone know what motor came in the 85 seville bow riders I keep seeing 4 Cylinders but Im still leaning to a small block V8 any thoughts concerns?

Question has anyone have a fast and effective way to get the foam out besides either cutting with a razor knife or ripping it ?

Hello Captain Ron.
I will be following your rebuild. When I was removing my foam, I used an old school lawn edger, the one you stood on like a short, flat shovel? It does a good job seperating the foam from the stringers. I was able to pull out some 2 or 3 foot sections. Just put the edger against the stringer and lift then move a little farther down. When the foam starts to break in the middle just pop that section right out.

Good luck I am looking forward to seeing how things go for you. Gator

Love what you're doing with the old Sea Ray. I had a 1987 Seville 17BR. It had a 3.0L 130 HP Merc with Alpha one. I had a look on the Sea Ray Model Archives and couldn't find a 20' bow rider listed for 1985. Closest I found was the 1987 Seville 19BR which has a 130 Merc/OMC as standard wih 165 or 175 as options.

Looks like you have quite the restoration going on your SR. Are you going back with the same color scheme or planning on changing it up a bit? I will be following your work closely as I think I will be doing the same in the future. I am planning on passing th boat off to the kids when they are old enough but at 7 and 8 I got a few years yet. Great work so far though.
