1985 mercury 115hp inline 6 loss power

i have a 1985 mercury 115 inline 6 runs fine in the yard on the water hose but when in the water it idles fine but bogs out when trying to give it throttle and kills.......took down carbs and cleaned them out.. new gas line with ball primer......any help is greatly appreciated

If the idle mixture screws have been reset I'd close each one down until the motor drops rpm at idle then back to just peak rpm, then turn all three a 1/4 turn out and try it(in the lake!). They may need to be turned out more than that, adjust equally until the bog is gone. I'm sure somebody else will chime in with the procedure... They like fuel and will bog and kill if the idle circuit is a little lean.

If richening up the mix doesn't help it may have a stator problem or switchbox problem. I would then try removing and taping up the stator wires to the rectifier and checking to see if it runs, if so it needs a stator. Otherwise some ignition testing with a dva meter may be in order.

What's the compression on it ?? How big of a gap will the spark jump ??
