1985 Mercruiser 140hp

My dad has a 1985 Rinker 180V with a 140HP Mercruiser I/O that has been sitting for 3 years. I am an aircraft mechanic that knows how to bring a motor back from the dead but have no experience with boats and am looking for information to be prepared to start this project before I drive 12 hours to pick it up. Does anyone know what spark plugs are on this motor, oil and filter, battery, carb kit part number? Any information would be helpful, so I can have parts in hand when I pick it up in 2 weeks.

I have a 1985, Merc 3.0 140 also.

Plugs: AC Delco MR-43-T Gap: .035
Oil: SAE 30 or 40 (5 quarts)
Oil Filter: NAPA 1086
Timing: 6*BTDC
Idle: 700-800 RPM
I'm using a deep cycle marine battery. Want to say off top of my head 675 cold crank. $75-$80 @ Walmart.
Carb Kit # based on your carb.
Change your fuel pump filter. I don't have a #.
EDIT: Distributor Tune-Up Kit: 34235T-1. Has rotor, points and condenser.
DeWell: .022 gap or 28-34*

Find yourself a Clymer Mercruiser Shop manual. You will need it. Book # for years 1964-1985 is: Clymer B740

Find yourself a Clymer Mercruiser Shop manual. You will need it. Book # for years 1964-1985 is: Clymer B740

That is the worst possible choice anyone could make for a manual. Get the one Bondo linked to above. Not only is it free, it's the OEM manual from Mercruiser with all the information in it, not just selected items like clymers. If you ordered the Clymers, I suppose it will make a good knee pad. Personally I prefer the Seloc for knee pads, they are a bit softer.
