Not sure what the problem is here. Engine was running rough so I set the timing and checked the points. After running for a while at 25 to 30 miles per hour I oppened the enging cowling and could not believe how hot the engine was to the touch. I couldn't even touch the spark arrester. Pulled it out of the lake and waiting for it to cool down for more checking. Is there a way to see if the water pump on the engine if working? Also, the lower unit pump is new so should be working fine.

Hook it up to a hose with muffs, if the pump is working the water will be drawn into the engine and you will see it coming out of the exhuat, if it seems your not getting the amount of water you should be then you may have an issue.

If it is as hot as you are disrobing I would check the thermistate to make sure it's operating properly.
