1985 merc 150 black max xr 2, peeing water?

Hello all, how long should it take for my motor to start peeing water? Also should water becoming out of the exhaust vents with the exhaust smoke, it did start peeing after a few minutes, should I just put new impeller etc in my motor? Thanks!

sounds normal ta me.......
get a water pressure gauge ta keep an eye on.

Water coming out of the Exhaust Vents is Normal, Exhaust coming out of the Telltale once the water is coming out of it, is Not Normal.
It should have water coming out of the Telltale within 30 seconds. How Old is the Water Pump Impeller? Better yet. How long have you owned this Motor?

'ole jimmbo is partially right... with most but tha XR2 is a very thick, steel sleeve motor that usually takes a bit more time ta warm (lake/water temp also comes inta play) to stat openings ta start tha discharge process... thats why i recommended a gauge.... with most it can seem like an eternity for it ta start peein' when in reality its not that long.. but a water pump kit is never a "bad/not necessary" thing.. a pressure gauge never lies........... jmo

think this is one of those "ya gotta be there" moments ta make tha call......

The Telltale will start peeing as soon as the Block is filling up, nothing to do with the Stats.

now i see why he says what he says!... it does with a merc V6.... discharge tale tale is AFTER tha stats.. also not all stats have a vent or small bi pass hole either... you need ta brush up on that coolin' system.... but it is what it is and i 'm not gonna argue 'bout it...................

JFI... tha dia is with everything in "open" mode.. stats and poppet... tha poppet is closed when motor is at idle and/or below about 1800 rpm (not a set in stone number) and below so nothing comin' from there.....

whats pressure at idle and at wfo?.... when its in tha water under a load (in gear)...

a new water pump kit, stats, poppet can never hurt anything when dealing with a motor you are unfamiliar with!...... jmo.

Today water pressure was around 15, I'm going to replace water pump etc, stats?

changin' those items were always done on anything we had that none of us were familiar with (unknown PO or history of motor) ... jmo.
