Hello Everyone,

As you may have noticed, this is my first post to iboats. I have been creeping the forums for some time now and I guess it's about time I at least show everyone what I'm working with. Since everyone seems to enjoy pictures so much, here are some pictures of the project.

I have already started removing all the teak to be refinished. Pulled off anything with vinyl to be upholstered and ripping up carpet and some flooring in the cabin area. The last owner made repairs over the existing problem areas in the cabin floor. He essentially just put wood over the areas needing repairs. No glass. Needless to say, it will be repaired correctly this time around. I'm thinking maybe this season just shoot for the interior repairs and any motor work that needs addressed. Save the hull work (with the exception of some fresh bottom paint) for next season.

Any questions please ask. The motor is a 190hp 4 Cylinder Mercury - this thing definitely isn't going to get up and go, but with gas prices at 5$ a gallon this summer I think I'll live. - The good thing is the motor turns over and runs great.

If anyone has any good resources on this make/model/year boat, it's appreciated.

Re: 1985 Larson DC 215 Sportcruiser - Restoration Project

I got quite a bit of work done this weekend. Mostly just deconstruction with some good news and bad news thus far.

Good news:

1. Deconstruction is going pretty smoothly, just removed the 1000 screws holding everything together.

2. The massive stringers on each side of the boat appear to be dry from what I can tell so far.

Bad News:

1. The middle stringer is done for and in the process of being removed. I've just been hacking away at it with a hammer and chisel.

2. This main middle stringer runs all the way back to the transom I believe and it's as wet as far back as I can feel. Which means I'm going to have to pull the motor and tear up more than I planned/hoped to repair things correctly.

Questions:

1. Any ideas how to best safely remove stringers that are still very tight against the hull?

2. Cost effective ways to lift out this motor from a boat that sits up this high? Furthermore, I have never pulled a motor from anything. How hard is it to disconnect/re-connect everything correctly. The motor works now. I'd like it to work when I put it back in.

Re: 1985 Larson DC 215 Sportcruiser - Restoration Project

Had a little bit of time this weekend to get a few things done.

pulled the outdrive. just to confirm, i do not need to remove this housing attached to the transom BEFORE pulling the engine, right?

Outdrive on the ground.

got the deck lifted out, so I can start disconnecting things in preparation to have the engine pulled.

got a storage unit to keep things in, hopefully the motor will be in here next weekend on a pallet. if anyone has any helpful tips on how to prep the motor prior to pulling it, i would greatly appreciate it, this is my first motor pull.

Until next week!

1 remove outdrive
2 take apart both sides of shift cable
3 unplug power harness
4 takeout lagbolts into stringer in front
5 take out 2 rear mount bolts
6 remove and plug fuel line at fuel pump
7 remove exhaust elbow
this is the most of it just look around after this for any missed connections
