1985 JOHNSON GT 150 VRO

i have a johnson 150 with the vro tank removed and ran great the few first times i took it out, then when i dumped on in it took off and then bogged down shortly therafter and wouldnt go without the choke, if i held in the choke it would run great, i tore the fuel pump apart and it looked great, the carbs were rebuilt in 2000 and i only took the top one off and it looked excellent, now when i go to take off it does go but eventually bogs down, in order to keep top speed i have to hold the choke in, all the hose clamps are new on the fuel lines, i am confident it is a fuel restriction problem but don't know alot about the motor, and also could it be i need a new fuel pump for the pre-mix gas? i am completely lost with this one and need some guidance

If it goes with holding the primer in (you dont have a choke) that tells us 2 things. <br /><br />1- The fuel pump is working because there is enough fuel to the primer to make the motor run.<br /><br />2- Hitting the primer feeds fuel to the motor by by-passing the carbs. It would seem the restriction is in the carbs.<br /><br />I would remove, disassemble, soak and install new kits in the carbs. I'd bet that cures it.

thanx, like i said i only took the top carb off and it looked good, guess i should of went the distance and done the other two

You won't be able to see what's causing the restriction. 5 years is about the right time to do a rebuild on the carbs, especially if it sits up in the winter for a while.
