I have a 1985 Procraft 1750v F/S with a '85 Johnson 150 2 cycle outboard. The problem i've started having is the motor cranks up and runs fine for about 2 minutes then abruptly shuts off almost as if it just ran out of gas. If I pump up the ball it will crank again and run fine. If I stay at the back of the boat and pump the ball every minute or so it will continue running without shutting off. When the problem actually started occuring I was out on the lake with a buddy who I had sit at the back of the boat to pump the primer ball every minute or so and we rode around with no problem at all. So I spoke with my mechanic and he indicated the VRO pump which I replaced according to supplied instructions, I still am experiencing the exact same issue. What are other possible causes of this issue? Can the primer ball restrict fuel flow or is it more likely a split in a fuel hose somewhere? I have checked all the fuel hoses from the tank outlet all the way to the fuel pump and they all appear fine. I thank you all in advance for any assistance you can provide on this matter.

I would never replace a pump without checking to see if the old was actually bad.------Pump is driven by crankcase pressure pulses and have you checked that.----A compression test does not find crankase compression but you can do a compression test just for fun

I have considered the crankcase pulses as being a possible cause. Is there any way to actually check that? Like a compression tester attached to the pulse hose?
