Motor will not idle, 2 botton cylinders seem to not be getting fuel, but show oil on plugs.Have disassembled & cleaned carbs & all was good. Motor will run out fairly good @ top end but then stall out & seem to locked up, but quickly starts back up, I have sprayed gas into carb @ idle but made no diff.Have 125 PSI compression @ all 4 cyl. How do I know if I have a reed problem or not. Isue is only w/ bottom 2 cylinders

Welcome to the forum John,

Did this problem exist before the carbs were cleaned or did this start after, how long after/before?

When the carbs were cleaned was a kit put in?

Have you got a service manual?

Again Welcome,
Mike :)

Yes, I did have this problem prior. Appeared that I was not getting fuel to bottom cylinders, thats what promped me to look into carbs. I did use new gaskets but did not see a need for carb kits. Floats, needles, & float adj.looked great.
I question reeds or crank seals but don't know how to determine.I have no manual

With the engine running at idle, loosen the throttle link between the two carb's. This will let the throttle plates snap fully closed. See if those bottom cylinders pick up.

Re: 1985 Evinrude 90HP Problem

Thought I'd give you my results. I had scored cylinders. The baffeling part was: I had good compression & good spark, leading me to think it was a fuel problem. After inspecting carbs again I decided to spill the beans & either see that the cylinders were good or not, & they were bad. Thanks though for your help.
