So my fiance and I just bought a 1985 Bayliner and I need to replace the entire deck. I am pretty handy with fixing and replacing things and I love doing projects like this one. However, I haven't a clue where to begin to replace the deck. I have ripped the rotted floor out and check stringers and they are still good. :) I have no idea where to go from here nor do i know what i need to do the job. Help please.....

Welcome to iBoats . . .

there are many, many threads on restoration of Bayliners. So, search away and look at the threads . . . hopefully ones with lots of pictures. Many of your questions will be answered. It is not that hard . . .

Clap,

I would recommend drilling for core samples. In most cases when the deck is rotten so are the stringers and transom. Use a 1/4" drill bit and drill in to several areas on the stringers and transom about a 1/2" deep. See if the drill shavings are dark or bright like new wood.

Thank you much. If the stringers are rotted, how hard are those to replace myself?
