Re: 1985 Alpha One Bellhousing Replacement
The pivot pins are tough to deal with without the right tool, but you can use a really big allen wrench (1/2"?). If you can't find one that big, there are long nuts you can get to join threaded rod end-to-end. They're usually at the store by the threaded rod. I believe one for 5/16" threaded rod fits. For the clamps I use a 1/4" drive flex extension between a 5/16" socket and nutdriver handle. Sometimes you can get away with a long screwdriver. Note their position. It's important when you put it back together, trust me. The only other tool is to install the exhaust bellows once things are pretty much together. It's about impossible without it.

Replace all of the bellows, the water hose, the shift cable, the trim limit switch and sender. It's more work and more money, but you only have to do it once. Don't use heater hose for the water hose. It kinks. You'll want a manual!

The mess comes from the glue. You'll need Bellows adhesive. As long as the drive is off, you should have the engine alignment checked. If the gimbal bearing is bad, there's no better time to change it.

There is a tube available instead of the exhaust bellows. If you have a V-8 you might consider using that instead. You wouldn't need that special tool then. It's probably cheaper as well. You might get a few more Hp, but it'll be slightly louder.
