Need to replace bellhousing, and bellows, how difficult is it to replace all. Any tips to make the job easier or are there any special tools necessary?

The pivot pins are tough to deal with without the right tool, but you can use a really big allen wrench (1/2"?). If you can't find one that big, there are long nuts you can get to join threaded rod end-to-end. They're usually at the store by the threaded rod. I believe one for 5/16" threaded rod fits. For the clamps I use a 1/4" drive flex extension between a 5/16" socket and nutdriver handle. Sometimes you can get away with a long screwdriver. Note their position. It's important when you put it back together, trust me. The only other tool is to install the exhaust bellows once things are pretty much together. It's about impossible without it.

Replace all of the bellows, the water hose, the shift cable, the trim limit switch and sender. It's more work and more money, but you only have to do it once. Don't use heater hose for the water hose. It kinks. You'll want a manual!

The mess comes from the glue. You'll need Bellows adhesive. As long as the drive is off, you should have the engine alignment checked. If the gimbal bearing is bad, there's no better time to change it.

There is a tube available instead of the exhaust bellows. If you have a V-8 you might consider using that instead. You wouldn't need that special tool then. It's probably cheaper as well. You might get a few more Hp, but it'll be slightly louder.

hello
the tube is not gonna do anything but make noise when running tilted.
tommays.
if you try to replace the bellows with the drive on you will see what I mean. with the drive off its a 45 min operation. I modified my bellows expander to fit around the shift shaft so if there is no reason to remove it I dont. but I have learned much from both fools and sages in the years since I was 18.
nice thing about the exhaust bellows is if it leaks it does no damage and is just noisy. its desined to have water in it. the drive bellows is a bit different average bellows job on an alpha is about 3.5 hours give or take.

"The only other tool is to install the exhaust bellows once things are pretty much together. It's about impossible without it."

I made a tool for this for about 2.00. Go to home depot and get a peice of steel rod about 3/8" diameter a foot or two long, make a bend a little more than ninety degrees at one end about an inch from the end and grind that end a little flat and smooth so it fits in the bellows grooves. It took me about 3 minutes to install the exhaust bellows with this homemade tool. Also used an old drive shaft for an engine alignment tool, works great!...my two cents.
