Hey guys I'm in the process of restoring/ modifying my 17' aluminim boat. I bought the boat last spring for $1000 first boat I've owned with an outboard which is a Mariner 50hp. Last spring and summer I was happy with the boat no leaks had to stick $400 in motor but other than that she just needs some TLC. I have got the boat completly gutted except for transom as of now. My plans going into this project were to basically to transform my boat to have close to the same layout as a new Tracker boat. First thing Im going to do is have the bottom of boat on the inside sprayed with a scorpion bed liner system by a guy in town. Next is to start putting in the foam. So what's some good choices on foam I know guys use the blue board from lowes and seen some using pool noodles I was looking more towards the pre mix and pour. Any advice or suggestions, pictures greatly appreciated. Next i plan on getting a 1/1/2 of pvc pipe to lay in center valley of boat for easy wire pulling if i ever add or change anything electrical on front deck. I have some 4x8x3/4 sheets of non treated osb board for the floor. I have some Hellsman spar urethane to seal the wood. Should I use a lacquer as well or will the urethane be enough. Next I was going to lay a sheet of 1/8" aluminum down on top of osb for extra meat for fastening console, pedastals for seats, and everthing else to be attached to floor. After all that I am going to put in my new supports which is 3x2 aluminim tubing 3/16 wall for extending my front deck 4'. After that I have ideas on what I want to do but we will see when I get these steps done.
Questions that I have now:
Best way to go about re riveting the pop rivets on the side of boat.
Any sealent suggestions for rivets.
Best way to replace my transom
Best way to remove / replace buck rivets.
I know I'm gonna have more questions but any help or suggestions on the way I'm doing things is appreciated. I'll get pictures up shortly. Thanks in advanced. Happy boating/ fishing
