Just a note thanking everyone who posts there problems and solutions on this website. I have a 15hp that has taken me some time to fix and without the knowledge of others posting there solutions I probably would still be trying to solve it.
My problem was that as I got up to plane at about 3/4 throttle, the rpms would increase and it would feel as though I spun the hub. After marking the hub and trying again, this was not the problem. If I eased into the throttle and went easy, it would sometimes run just fine. If it was choppy on the lake, it would happen much more often. I adjusted tilt on motor also to no avail. Next step was lower unit overhaul until I noticed someone mention shift linkage. This motor was serviced at a marina before I purchased with lower unit oil and a new impeller. What I found was that the upper shift linkage bolt was not installed properly, hence coming out of gear under load. New bolt installed and motor works wonderful.
Thanks again.
