I purchased a new battery for this season a couple of days ago. I have not had my boat on the water since last Oct. Last Oct my batteries were going dead fast and then a few days later after a full charge they would not crank the engine but just a few seconds. I was wondering if I ned a new starter that will not pull the battery down so fast. No other electrical components are on.

waynet,

Is your engine recharging the batteries.

If you hook a voltmeter across the battery terminals, it will read about 12 volts without the engine running and 13.5V plus with it running.

If not, you're not charging.

It does not have an alternator & these are brand new batteries.

Howdy, WayneT.

Your starter is not the trouble.

You have an electrical drain somewhere in your boat wiring that is draining the battery.

Good luck. :)

wayne,

How do you figure that the engine doesn't have an alternator? I'm not aware of any 115's of that vintage that didn't.
