Hi all: New to forum: I have a 1984 Yamaha 25 hp SN ,tiller, manual start outboard with no spark. Had been having issues last fall when running full throttle, and motor jerked every 10 seconds or so like it was starving for fuel. Redid carb, new gas tank, hose. Started fine, ran full throttle, but still jerking.
Last fall ran down river 3 miles, and slowed down, and motor died, would not start. Pulled back to truck. Trailered, No spark! Have put ohm meter on brown and black wires that go to ignition coil (stator) under flywheel. 0.13....Took flywheel off and white gooey material on stator and some on magnets. Should I replace stator and pulsar coil, or does anyone have any idea what is my problem.
Thanks

Do you need information to help you trouble shoot the components?

do a web search for CDI electronics trouble shooting guide.
it will give you the basics on what and how to test

the kill switch ground the spark voltages to stop the motor/spark.
that is where I would start looking if you have good peak voltages out of the charge and pulser coils

Hi: Thanks, I disconnected the white wire from the kill switch, and still had no spark. Yes, to the second post boscoe99, I would like some info on the parts. Thank you, I bought a Clymer book on 84 to 87 Yamaha's, but it really does not show or tell much. I think it's one of 4 things, so I thought I would start at the top, since flywheel has not been off in 30 years. What is the white gooey stuff on magnets on flywheel?
Also, I did look up the cdi info, and it does tell about the ohm's and voltages, but....it shows a brown and blue wire for mine, and mine has brown, white, and black wires. Black goes to ground.
Pulsar has a white/red wire.
Thank you, Jay

I am not sure what the 2nd wire to the pulser coil is suppose to be.
is it just to ground?

Thank you so much. I don't know where you found this. I have been searching for months. I was not sure of the blue wire. I can't get out to check the motor, been raining here almost everyday. So, I guess I should only be concerned with the resistance on charge coil and pulsar coil???
Peak voltage loaded would be when it's running????
What is Peak voltage loaded on cdi???
What is secondary resistance on the ignition coil??? Same for cdi???
Thank you....

loaded means not disconnected, it is still attached as it should be running
primary is the voltage into something, secondary is the out put
