Hello Everyone
I bought an old bass boat with a Mercury 150 2 stroke v6 and old age and rats have chewed up the bleed lines and i dont know where to hook them up correctly.
My engine has 5 hoses total on the cylinders . 1 to the airbox
My motor also has vertical reeds.
I have read a ton of articles on the internet and i just cant find any good drawings.
I want to get it running before i buy a manual to make sure its worth a few bucks.
All help will be Greatly appreciated!

Buy the manual
Hi
Do you know what manual i need for a 1984 mercury that will show the bleed line routing clearly ?
I read about a whole lot of people buying manuals and what they are looking for are not shown.
I have ran lines where i think they go by reading a lot.
With it sitting 20+ years i just plan to crank it up and see how it runs, if it knocks or acts like it needs a lot of money spent on it then i wont be wasted money on a manual and just repower it.
Compression is on average 120 psi .
Thanks

think tha one in my link is 90-97658.. its in tha link if ya can get it opened on a lap top by copy n paste tha address........

you can jus block 'em off and it will run.. won't hurt a thing.. it will jus load up at idle but should clear up with throttle added........... make sure tha motor is level or a bit positive trim...

Hi
Dont plug the bleed holes if you plan to rev it up, they will blow off if not secured properly !
It will blow oil and gas on you like it does out of the carb with a broken reed valve!

Well after 7 hours of soldering replaced chewed up wires it Runs after sitting 20 or so years.
It doesnt idle the best and has a slight missfire on cyl #1 and #5 but after all that time sitting I am happy with it and I am willing to spend i few bucks on it.
It does not appear to have any labyrinth crank shaft seal leaks that i have repaired before but its too soon tell.
Thanks again for the help and i will probably have some more questions on Mercury motors in the future.

That motor does not have labyrinth seals
Hi
I was using the engineering term for that kind of ring, not the book or part ordering name of a crankshaft compression ring.
I have never torn down a mercury but it still has to seal off each combustion cylinder seperately like any other multi cylinder two stroke engine.
I have seen a few older two stroke motor cycle engines that didnt though.
Are you saying the older mercurys dont?
Or was it just my term ?
I might have to look into this more if it does not have individual cylinder sealing.
Sorry my message was so long i just want to be clear on what i am dealing with.
Thank ya'll for all the help!

Hi
I need to correct something.
You were completely Right they can be blocked off with no problem.
I ran my motor in a tub this morning by doing this when i accelerated it i heard a cough and it blew the rubber hose off of #2
I put it back on gas it gas #1 blew off then again and #5 blew off. I put on some clear hose on #1 and when i cranked it #1 blew a hole in the hose right at the nipple and smoke came out.
The timing was off about 10 turns on the screw.
No more cough so i plugged them and it ran fine and did not blow any off.
I also learned something i did not ever think about and did not know since i have always ran rubber the black rubber hose not the clear hose.
The nipples on the cylinder are pulling the vaccumn . Not the intake nipples !
Thats pretty cool Thanks for plug them comment, i never would have figured this out when i got it on the water
Thank you

Thanks
Just like johnson, evinrude.
I was not sure what Mercury used .
I thought it would be the same but was not sure.
I do need to check the reeds but i need gaskets and have not found one yet that was for verticle reeds on the normal purchase sites. I did not want to mention them since i dont want to advertise sites.
Thanks a lot
