1984 mariner 115 electrical problem

i have a 1984 mariner 115 just rebuilt it myself i found out the rectifier was fried and replaced it but the motor doesnt go past 2000 rpms but when i take the stator wires off the rectifier it runs like a top 55mph can anybody give me some ideas of whats wrong can it be a bad stator and when the rectifier was hooked up the voltage was 17volts at 2000 rmp wot

Check your wiring as some of those stators had a separate ground wire. If all is ok the battery charging side of stator is bad....

can this be the reason why when the rectifier is hooked up it has no power

Remember that there is NO RETURN on electrical parts.

DVA test the stator. Remove the rectifier and test it with an ohms meter to ensure that one of the diodes is not shorted or burnt.

Either the stator or rectifier can cause this condition, most likely the rectifier, but you GOT TO TEST BOTH to be sure which is at fault.
