I am attempting to rebuild my 3 carbs. The carbs are marked with the part number on a metal tab. Two of the carbs are 394810 and one is 394811. All three carbs look exactly the same. After looking up part on the website, I found that the part number 394811 is supposed to be the "middle" carb. However, the carb with the 394811 tab on it was my lower carb. Confusing??

My questions are...what is the difference in the carbs? Is the position important other than the carb that has the roller (cam follower). Is that the carb that should be marked with the 394811 tab?

Any information would be appreciated before I put them back on the motor.

If I remember correctly if you order a complete carb the center carb will have the linkage on it. I wounder if someone rebuilt the carbs and got the tags mixed up.

That is what i was thinking but then i started wondering if there is an actual difference in the carbs? Are you aware of any orifice or constuction difference?

I had a 3 carb Johnson that had a different fuel connect on the middle carb and the choke linkage was a bit different...middle one was the master, other two were slaves...everything else was identical.

I beleave the carb bodies are the same, it's the bowls and linkage that is different. They will all use the same kits, floats, jets.

thanks for the replies. i got the carbs back together and on the motor. initial "out of the water" tests shows an inprovment in performance. it will be a few weeks before i can get the boat back in the water for a full test.

thanks again...
