Hi-

I inherited this puppy with 1 of the 2 carbs off the motor and all of the fuel lines in the area of the carbs snipped off. I have figured out the routing of stuff with the small diameter fuel hose (to the carbs), but there is the main 5/16" line (that comes from the back of the motor where the cx is from the line from the gas can) that comes into the general area of the carbs and just ends. Neither of the carbs has a fitting to accept that bigger diameter line.

So - the question is - how does this main line get reduced, or, in general, get gas to the carbs? I have fittings (hose barbs and a tee - all brass) that I think will work, and will then feed 2 outgoing small diameter line to the 2 carbs) but I need to make sure this is how it should be set up. I can't find s__t about this (even a generic fuel line/routing diagram udner the cowl) in the Seloc manual.

Thanks a lot,
Greg

Hey Greg

Might try going to the BRP site and checking out some fuel component diagrams. Might get you in the right direction...

web page

You are going to have to give me the serial number of your outboard then I can give you a diagram.

I'm pretty sure I've got it figured out from the BRP site - that's a great site I wasn't aware of (I'm new to all this marine stuff but have been a car guy for quite a while).

The model I believe is a J40ECRM (electric start, manual tilt).

Thanks again - I think the solution I had already conjured up will work.

I'll bet it's the one that comes out of the bottom of the block and plugs into to air silencer/cover. It fits on a post at the bottom.

Saskatoon, my serial # is 7001787.

I got home from work today to peek in there again and notice that on the exact opposit side of the engine from the fuel pump, there is some other ... thing with a red lever that moves 180 degrees. Does this have to do with the choke? It seems like the small diameter fuel lines go to this thing and back to the carbs...

This is not included in the diagram I was able to get from BRP.

Yes - the red lever is a primer solenoid. When you push the key in during the start process, the primer solenoid is energized to feed extra fuel to the carb through those small diameter hoses. Should the primer solenoid fail, the know can be turned to allow starting the engine. It is then returned to its normal position.

So - the primer has 1 feed going in from the main fuel line (5/16") somehow, I assume by a reducing tee of some sort. I am not sure if it has one or two lines out to the carbs - if one, then I assume another tee and then 2 lines to each carbs. The other nipple on the 1st reducing tee must feed the "regular" fuel flow (i.e., not associated with the primer) for the 2 carbs.

I see 2 different nipples on each of the arbs - one is smaller than the other. Does anyone know if the smaller nipples are to accept the lines from the primer? If so, then I think I've almost got it figured out...

Thanks.
