1984 johnson 115 v4 water question

Just put in my water impeller only this weekend but i didnt get the whole housing,water shoots out the top hole fine.is that the only place it should shoot out with earmuffs on ?

The oring around the base of the housing and the driveshaft seal at the top of the housing should cause most all of the water to exit through the tube at the top of the housing, where it connects to the midsection water pipe.

I went ahead and ordered the whole kit with housing and seals,didnt like the way the seals looked,now that i done it once the next will a piece of cake.

ok got the whole housing kit and there is no exploited view not that its needed the only thing i noticed is that theres no seal on the main shaft,just a grommet on top, the smaller tube has a grommet under the cap like the orig.why????is this a problem,used all the parts except 1 big oring its about 1 inch?anybody know if its not needed for a v4

The O ring should be for the groove at the top of the drive shaft.

I did put the oring at the top of the shaft,(3/4 in.)and greased splines.1 grommet at the top of the housing(shaft).1 Grommet at the top of the shift linkage.1 small grommet for the tube that goes up to the motor but i have 1 oring extra

The OEM kits have an o-ring that goes at the bottom of the impeller, and an o-ring that goes between the water pump housing and the liner.

This was a sierra kit and it stated no oring under impeller,used all the parts except for an extra key and an approx 1.25in thin round o ring.Anyway its all back together,I think next time i will go back to original,I hate aftermarket for this exact reason.
