I am looking at picking up a 19.5 ft bowrider with a 3.7 litre engine. The engine and engine compartment is spotless and the hull is very nice but the floor is bad in several places. From the hours of reading I have done this morning it sounds like I would be very lucky if the stringers dont need attention also. I am sure I can do the work with proper instruction and am wondering if anyone can suggest a good dvd to help get me started. Thanx!.....Dan

I think that the Search function and frequent posts here would be miles above and beyond what any dvd could tell you.

Seriously. A dvd would give you some "general" instructions, but for your specific boat, questions and problems, using this forum (I think) will get you so much more!

Any pictures of the boat and the soft spots?

Welcome to iboats!

Remember Lost in Space? DANGER DANGER Danger Will Robinson!!

Please search and read up on the 3.7 liter engine (AKA 470 mercruiser) BEFORE you commit to purchase. ;)

Believe me I am absolutley blown away by the amount of information here and the generosity of the people with the know how, willing to share what they have learned. I just figured if I could see some of the things I read about today being applied it would just help me a bit to put it all together.

I dont have any pics of the boat but cosmetically it really is very nice. The soft spots really are much more than that with the floor being quite rotten and wet. The area in front of the dog house (over the fuel tank) is nasty as well as the area around the small under floor storage between the seats. Both these areas have plywood laying over them to stop anyone from stepping through. The engine is spotless and the bilge area is really clean but based on the suggestions to search for info on that motor me thinks I should take a pass on this one! Thanx for the tips!

If you are mechanically inclined and know your way around an engine at all, don't let people change your mind just because of the 3.7 (470 engine). It's not a nightmare like some people say it is if you take care of it. Haven't had any major trouble with mine. Just my $.02.
