Just to be clear, you don't have to let the air out.....it will do it automatically as you raise the engine up and down with the cap OFF. The expelled air will appear as bubbles in the fluid in the reservoir. If there are a lot of bubbles in the oil they will get pumped back into the system and you will have to start all over again......
I will try this when I get home and see what fixes it
I may have somewhere letting a tad bit of air in but I will preform the leakdown test as well

Normally it holds itself up until I lower it down then it starts leaking again

Sounds like some air is still in there maybe.....keep an eye on the motor, if it gets hot let it cool for a while.....will also help with getting the bubbles out of the fluid.
Make sure the engine goes all the way up till is stops, then all the way down until it stops.....full travel......

Ok so after some research there was a small hole in one part that’s been fixed I redid all the seals and now the motor will definitely hold where it’s at but the problem is now I put that sae 30 non detergent and it seems thick when I take the lines off the motor is definitely moving it but the motor won’t trim down unless I drain the lines a little bit and then won’t tilt up unless I do the same thing

Also it won’t tilt all the way down it will stop about 3/4 of the way down

Are you filling the reservoir when the engine is fully down? You might recheck your hydraulic lines and make sure they are in the right holes on the valve body.....is not hard to get them in the wrong one......in this diagram the green arrow should go to the fourth hole, not the third one as pictured, otherwise it is correct.1695787880653.png

so yeah my motor will raise up if i help it raise up and will stay up i can add my weight to it and it wont move and will trim down fast but will not go up unless i help it manually go up?

i just went and helped it raise itself up when i take the weight of the motor off the cylinder it will go up great, but once i put weight on the cylinder it wont move, motor spins but acts like it cant move it, if i grab the bottom of the motor while trimming up it goes up and supports my whole body weight, no leak down at all, the vaulve at the bottom i replace thinking it was it an changed nothing.

What hole are you talkin about and how did you fix it?
on the bottom of the cylinder housing there was a small hole and i blocked off the inside and the outside it is just where the oring on the bottom of the sleeve sits, there was a hole from the previous owner and i cleaned it put steel reinforced epoxy in it and taped the inside so the epoxy couldnt go inside and it was smooth once taken care of and the oring sealed properly with no leaks didnt touch the acctual cylinder

Was thinking that Chinese VB you got on ebay was suspect, now you have the motor apart...don't have much experience with that part of the system. If all else fails, Mastertech Marine has new API replacement units with complete motor and valve body assembly. Not cheap, but available...FYI

Hey so the vB is moving the fluid fine and it trims down terrific but when i trim up nothing unless i help if go up, When i open the cylinder there was a small knick in the side wall of the cylinder, Could that stop it from going up?

when its up it was holding up my body weight i left the bottom line in on the tilt cylinder and took the top one off and there was no fluid coming out of the top hole at all? so im a little suspicious of that cylinder

Is this the TILT cylinder with the knick? Any knicks or gouges in the cylinder wall is not good.....can damage the o-rings and not seal good. And anytime a line is removed you will have to bleed the air out again.

So I am trying to get the air out and can’t seem to get the cylinder to even move up at all and it’s the cylinder that holds the motor in the up position, but when I help lift it it will support my whole body weight but will not even attempt to move it up unless it’s just sealed that good I’ve manually lifted the cylinder and ran the pump up and down and dosnt seem to do any good

I took the top of the cylinder off and let it fill up and it bubbled around where the seal is so I guess that cylinder is bad

Is this the one with the nick in the cylinder wall? If it is that could be part of the problem and not repairable......once I used a vice to hold the tilt cylinder when taking the cap off, bad mistake. You couldn't tell by looking at it but it deformed it enough where the ram wouldn't seal.....and I was being careful too.....

Yeah I can feel around the cylinder it’s full of liquid but I can still feel the little nick in it with my thumb nail

When I took the cylinder all the way out the piston at the bottom was seeping out of the little hole with a ball in it and I couldn’t get it to seal properly found a use cylinder fully on eBay for 160

That tilt cylinder, with the nick in it and that hole you plugged up, makes sense to replace it.....was wondering what kind of VB you replaced that china one with?
