1984 evinrude wont idle

Runs great at high speed but when i go back to idle it will die after a minute or so. What could this be?

What engine
how many horse power
what model number.

Its a 50hp I'm not sure what model it is, it's like the EB.....model?

Best guess with the info so far is a carb service and clean out and a decarb.

Ok so some more info is it will run really great when on the muffs but when i put it in the water it wont idle but for a minute or so. But it will still run great when the throttle is down...??? Sounds really confusing!

Sounds like a linkage isnt set right.
