1984 Chrysler 105HP HELP!

I just bought a really nice 1984 sylvan 18 ft with a chrysler 105 HP outboard. It seems to be in nice condition. The previous owner said the engine is seized. Upon futher inspection we freed up the flyweel and found that the third piston down is not functioning. I am new to boats so I dont know what needs to be repaired and what it should cost. I wanna go to my local repair shop with some knowledge of the problem. Is this an expensive fix? I was told by one local shop owner that i should throw the chrysler away and start over, that is not an option right now. also, is the 2 or 4 stroke engine (stupid question but remember I am new to this) Any info would be very appreciated.

PLEASE DO NOT SHOUT PLEASE! It is redundant. You are asking for help just by posting. You will get more help by describing your problem (Siezed 105 Chrysler).

You can buy a nice used JohnnyRude, Yammy or Merc for less than it would cost to rebuild your Chrysler. You can recover part of that by parting out the Chrysler on eBay or craigslist.

That is my advice. Others may not agree.

It really depends upon what you mean by "the third piston down is not functioning." We need to Know if it has spark or if the compression is low.

The 1984 Chrysler is a very nice engine, exactly the same as early Force engines. It is a simple 2 cycle design which uses TCW-3 oil mixed in with the gasoline at 1 pint oil per 6 gallons gas. It has a nice lower unit, and usually prestolite ignition which is usually decent. So unless the engine is completely trashed, throwing it away is not the option you want. Your mechanic is suffering from the "Chrysler is Crap" syndrome. In reality, he doesn't want to invest the time to hunt up parts for it.

Pistons can be found at Wiseco and other parts that can not be found here at iboats can be found at The Chrysler Crew. Many, many parts are interchangeable from Force engines.

The engine is repairable for the most part with hand tools. Special tools are required only for a couple of repair procedures.

SO: First check to see that it has spark on all four cylinders. Then if it does, check compression to see if it is relatively equal on all cylinders. If #3 has SIGNIFICANTLY lower compression, then pull the head to see the condition of the piston and cylinder. Then come back with your results.

Sorry for not explaining.. The third cylinder does not move up and down as it should, as if it is not connected to the crank shaft. Is this something i should attempt to fix myself? or leave it to the mechanics
