I'm going to look at a boat for sale some time this week. It is powered by a rebuilt 90hp Johnson.

Is this a good motor? What should I look for when looking at it?

Very good motor. check compression, check lower unit fluid, water output and temp, Prop and most of all, make sure it runs well. Water test it before you buy it. Make sure it runs smooth from idle to WOT. Check lower unit fluid again to be sure it's still clean and not milky. This motor is a cousin to the super reliable 88 HP engines. Only it has VRO and possibly tilt and trim. Take some lower unit fluid and new screw seals with you to replace what was there. Worth the effort! And the owner shouldn't mind if nothing is wrong. Others will have more suggestions.
