I am getting ready to clean my carb with a new kit. I have never done it, but am tracking pretty good with the SELOC manual and the web site (http://www.sschapterpsa.com/ramblings/Johnson 9.9_15.htm) you guys have recommended. How long should it take me? And do I just match up and replace small parts and gaskets from the kit?

Thanks for the help and tips!

Your on the right track. Do not try to remove the high speed jet in the center of the carb. It is not meant to be removed and you will probably ruin the carb if you try. (done it) The choke plate is not to be removed as the little screw are peened over at the factory so they can't fall out and get sucked into the motor. If you try to remove them you may well ruin your carb. (done it too) Having said that you should be fine. How long it takes depends on your cleaning method. Some say soak it over night (with plastic parts removed) and some use carb. spray cleaner. Very important that you clean every orifice from every direction and follow up with lots of compressed air. Best of luck. Rick.

Nothin to worry about. I just rebuilt/cleaned 3 carbs, installed a new fuel pump, and re-plumed all the fuel lines on my 1986 150hp Rude. I used carb. spray cleaner and a bunch of air. Just make sure put everything back where it was :D

Thanks for all of the help. I did it today...and it took me 1 football game! Everything actually was pretty clean. I spray cleaned everything upon disassembly and let it dry and hit all nooks with air etc...new gaskets, new needle pin assembly at the float. Put everything back together and cranked her up. Did run a little more smoothly! :)
