Cool they can be a pain. I know a guy near her who would have a flywheel for your motor most likley, and he wouldn't want an arm and a leg for it either. He has been working on force motors since they came out. he' good very good. Old school dude. I' ll give you his number if you like, but only through a private message.

Hey raenglehart, I thought about it since he is a business owner and is already in the phone book, I'll just go ahead with it. The guy's name is Gerald Wise, owner Wise Marine Service, China Grove NC. no. is 704-857-8214. He has just about every Force part known to man in-shop. However, he is not internet savy, so to speak, and I don't know if he will ship stuff. Never hurts to ask. He has been a great resource for me in my quest to fix boat motor. Good luck!

Aggitated,

I gave Gerald a call....nice fella. He seems to think either a wiring issue or bad Stator. I've eliminated wiring by replacing Trigger, CDM's, Coil Packs, Plug wires.

From my understanding of motor operation with Stator type motors, and looking at the diagram, the Stator is only there to provide Battey Charging and 12VDC power when the engine is running. The local guy who came out last week said the same thing....stator doesn't effect trigger voltage.

So now I'm more purplexed. Both these guys have over a half-century of collective boat motor experience and are telling me completely different ways to go about it? I mean, I could throw more money at it and get a stator, but from my experience with these type motors (not outboards per-say, but stator-type engines--i.e. lawn mowers, etc), I just don't see a stator making a difference.

Hey, I just realized I logged in with my original user ID info and it worked today:) (wasn't even thinking). I e-mailed the admins to see if I can combine both ID's so I don't lose any postings/info.

Raenglehart, Gearld is a super nice guy, as you said. With everything you have replaced the stator is the only thing left. However, I pulled a bonehead with my motor, when I was going through the wiring at the terminal block I put a trigger wire in the wrong place, easy thing to do, and like to never figured out why no. 3 cyl. wasn't firing. Have you ran motor at night? good way to see if losing spark somewhere. Also, double check the trigger wires female connector and terminal block connection. I had to go back and solder two or three of mine, they were getting bad, and almost impossiable to see.

Re: 1984 85hp Force #1 no spark

Well, if I can come across one for a good price, I suppose I can throw a stator at it. Def not goign to buy new though ($300!). My motor doesn't have the terminal connections for teh stator, trigger, etc. Mine are all round quick deisconnect plugs, so no chance of crossing wires here. The main engine terminal strip (on the left) has been all verified to be correct. I puled off any and all heatshrink protection on all terminals to check for thsoe type wire issues as well (probably spent over 2 hours doing that and them re heatshrinking over them again--what a time consumer that was).

I may give another crack at things this weekend if time allows. I move to Ga in a month, so lots of other things to do as well right now. I'll update if/when I find anything new fellas.

Thanks for your assistance so far.

Good luck with the move to Ga. My wife has people in Ga. Great fishing in that state. I haven't got my boat running right either, (waiting on carb parts) It is just a motor and I refuse to let it beat me up. As long as the boat floats and the trailer will pull it I promise she will run again. We can't afford to buy anything elsem and besides its a love thing with Bayliner and Force lol have a good one, keep us posted as to progress.

Well, against my better judgement I bought a Stator. I'll let y'all know how it goes once I get it installed and try again.

Re: 1984 85hp Force #1 no spark

As promised fellas, here's an update. I received and replaced the stator (NOS) today. Well, what do you know, I have spark on all 3 cylinders now. I called the local guy here who came out to help me weeks ago. He nor I can figure that one out. I thought for a minute that maybe in all the swapping of things, maybe I just had something crossed (like the 2 stator round connectors). So, I went ahead and installed the old (original) stator back on just to be sure. No spark on #1. Sometimes I hate being an electrician and shooting every power, ground, continuity thru components, etc and everything shoots as it should, but still doesn't work. But in any case, I now have good spark and compression. But fuel pressure wasn't so good. Pulled fuel pump off and it was all rusted up. go a new one coming for $35. Gonna take carbs off and inspect them too while I'm at it. This thing has been sitting for a couple years and it appears some water got in the fuel at some point (Oh boy!!!). I can handle that though. My patience gauge has been reset now that is has spark. Thanks everyone for all your assistance.

I guess I should never question an old Southern Boy huh Aggitated.....lol (although he was incorrect about the color codes of the power packs to coil pack wires).

It'll be in the water in a week if it kills me now!!!!!! Done missed too much fishing time already.

I think that you deserve some credit for your persistence and not giving up! Anyways, it looks like you might be able to see the light at the end of the tunnel.

Cool beans raenglehart, wish I could say the same, looks like the best I can hope for is fall/winter season. Temps are hitting mid-90's here this week with no end in sight. Not doing much fishing this season hasn't killed me, but has been painfull. I think of my stay at home time as a bonding experiance with my wife....lol She would rather me be gone fishin'. Godd luck and catch one for me!!!
