Hello, new to fourm and owning a boat. I have a 1984 16' 1/2" beachcraft with 4.3 gm engine (12 bolt intake and 2 piece rear main seal) and omc outdrive. Got the boat for next to nothing because the previous owner didnt winterize properly and decided to still try to use the boat which resulted in throwing a rod. All externals minus exhaust manifolds are good so I have been shopping arround for a new or remaned long block. I was lesning tward a company called s and j but saw some negative reviews. Anyone delt with them or know of a better company? Trying to stay arround there 1500$ mark but want to get quality.
Thanks.

Re: 1984 4.3 omc block replacement.

I did infact know I have slim pickings as im stuck within the two years. I was looking into s and j Part #GMC-262MLB. I just read some bad reviews on defects and trying to get them handled with there warranty. They have been selling engines since 75 so they say so reading a few bad reviews dosent necessarily mean they dont sell good engines. You dont offten hear rants and raves of the satisfied customers unlesd posted on there website just trying to get you to buy ha.. Just lookin for people with experience with them and or another company that you can recomend. Thanks

Re: 1984 4.3 omc block replacement.

OMC didn't start using the 4.3 until later in 1985 so you might want to get a casting number off the block.
All 1984 V6 OMC's were 3.8L / 229 cid Chevrolet engines.
(GM didn't start to produce the 4.3 until 1985)

However, you can use a 4.3 marine engine if it's 1985 to early 1986 (tough to find those) and you get the whole setup with distributor and exhaust. (OMC specific exhaust)

If you have a 3.8 or 4.3 in a stringer drive powered boat and want exhaust manifolds for it, you will need to budget about $1300. OSCO are the only ones that will clear the selectrim engine mounts.
