This engine is missing the extra steering arm, I'm not sure what its called. Anyone know where I can find the part or part number for this engine?

Gee, get on one of the steering system OEM web sites and see what it is called. I expect a marine store will stock them.

What is that knobby thing above the motor steering arm? Some sort of nut?

Looks like the bolt for transom clamp.-----One just like the other one.------There is nothing missing on this steering as far as I can tell.------The system on this boat does not use the tilt tube and the drag link.

The motor in post # 1 is not using the steering set-up with it going through the tilt tube !!----It must be an older boat or had a different motor on it at one time.----Or somebody just was not well versed on boat steering systems !

I can't find the part I'm looking for. Its not this kind with the hydraulics but it kind of does the same thing. I'm looking for a part that will extend the steering. Right now its just got about five inches of movement which doesn't allow for much room to steer. The part I'm looking for is kind of just like two 5 inch arms that attach to that round bolt on the transom that will add more room to steer. Does anyone know of a part that will extend the steering for that set up?

You want a boat steering arm like this? They got 'em on flea bay and amazon, and likely other places

You need a new system and cable.------One that attaches to the tilt tube and then comes back to the motor.------Hurry to your local boat shop to get help to select this item.----Simple.

Thanks for the help. I will have to check amazon, they have everything. That one might work. The one I was looking for has two parts.

racerone,

I finally fixed that reverse problem. All I needed to do was insert the motor transom bar.

You might want to disconnect cable from motor and see just how much the motor can turn. Some older motors just don't turn as far as you might expect them to.

You could spend time and money fixing this "problem" only to find you end up with the same result.

Along those same lines, sometimes the steering cable allows the motor to turn more in one direction. An adjustable length steering arm can fix that.
