1984 125 force outboard

I just bought this boat not really outboard mechanically inclined on these but I’m having trouble shifting the control box is very very hard to shift can barely get anything out of it forward or reverse cables seem fun but getting nothing from it I’ll post pictures tmrw

Unhook the shift cables(yes both) then try shifting by hand.
You'll need to spin the prop as you try to shift.
Without spinning the gears and linkage can bind and cause hard shifting.

I will try when I get home after work today thank you for the response I’m new to this and I bought a new shifter and adjusted the cables I’m stuck in between buying new cables or checking the clutch dog but I don’t know if that has anything to do with it I’ll post pictures thank you again

The dog just slides back and forth.
The shift rod that goes through the front of the drive can get stuck or sticky because of corrosion and crud build up.
Lube the shift rod and pull up and down all the while turning the prop shaft.

So I have it in neutral but as soon as a hook up the throttle I can’t get anything out of the shifter anymore

The dog just slides back and forth.

Lube the shift rod and pull up and down all the while turning the prop shaft.
I posted some pictures to the thread it’s in neutral but when I hook up the throttle cable the shifter doesn’t have any play nothing

IF in the upper pic. the shifter & also the lower-unit are also in neutral??
then you'll have to adjust the upper shift-shaft because its not flush (see pic.)

When your shifter (in the boat) AND the timing-tower is neutral (starter interrupt-switch De-activated) The upper shift-shaft (lever) should be budding-up against each other see circulated area.
When everything is properly adjusted.......this allows the advance throttle to only go so far (in neutral)
To be used to start (cold) engine & warm up mode

BTW one of the shift-cables looks rough, cables with damaged outer-shields are prone to rust & seize-up

It’s flush now in neutral but I still have a inch and half of left over throttle cable I can’t connect this while it’s in neutral when I push the throttle control up I can hook up the throttle cable but then I have no play

IF yes to both; adjust the cable at the controls ( remove cable at shifter & attached in the appropriate mounting-hole

Sorry, I have to ask; do you have the correct cable hooked to the correct point ?(its easy to mix-up)

I have the correct cable hooked up to the shifter and I can’t adjust it anymore under the the console and yes the prop spins freely and thank you for the response I’m just lost lol

Lets call a spade a spade, what is for you "the console" ??
you mean; under the cowl ? (engine side) OR the controls in the boat ?
Yes the cowl the controls under the steering wheel and shifter I don’t know where else it could be like I said I’m new to this
