1983 Mercury Formula 2.4 Litre EFI High Performance V-6

I just bought a used Ranger boat with this engine on the back. Before I ask more questions, can somebody tell me about this motor? The paperwork says it's a 150, but it's gotta be bigger than that. It's scarey fast! It has louvres on the top, sides and back. I've never seen one like it, but was impressed with the test drive so I bought it.

Pictures might help. You can put a 260 powerhead on a 150 XR2 or XR4 leg and have a scary wild engine.

1983 and EFI don't match up. 1983 would have a clamshell type shroud on it, so if it's a bucket, somebody's been playing.

pictures, inside and out, would help a lot.

That the 2.4 EFI bass series, same as offshore but different midsection. It has the "commode" style air horn and analog ECU. The Fuel/Oil Ratio is 40:1 and recommended Oil is Mercury Performance Blend 2-cycle. The bad news...The ECU & TPS are NLA from Merc and if needed repaired they will have to be sent off

Old "original" updraft Ovalport!!!!!! What Ranger ya got on? If its tha 340 no wonder your impressed. If you ever decide ta sell or trade, lemme know! I'm just 300 miles north. I like 'em. Rated at 240..............

This boat used to be owned by a couple of Michigan bass anglers. I saw this same Ranger--brown 340v with a 2.4 Litre Mercury--at a local diner parking lot after an event-- about summer 1985. They had the jackplate set real high at the time. The guys said it would run 88mph on radar, scary fast for a below 17 footer! It had a Mercury High Performance checkered flags decal on the front of the cowling. Do you have full boat pics you could post? Or I can give you my personal email.

Yep! I've seen this rig before, brown metalic 340v Ranger with the 2.4 Litre Mercury Formula EFI outboard. The guys knew it was overpowered but their insurance wrote it for 150hp. Back then guys wanted faster Rangers, so they'd drill low water pickups to use with a hydraulic plate. Am Tourneys didn't care if ya gutted the exhaust, switched cowlings w lower hp, fuel pumps, etc.
