I have what I believe to be a 1983 Mariner 9.9M (s/n 682cs 048253) that I have been having problems with. It starts very easily but won't stay running without almost full choke. I have replaced fuel lines, primer, cleaned the fuel filter, and have new spark plugs. Gas mix is 50:1. I have taken the carb apart and cleaned it but I think it could use a rebuild kit to freshen up the seals. I can't seem to find any parts that match my carb. The plate on the fuel pump side of the carb says TK Carburettor Co., LTD and the stamped numbers on the linkage side are 6E770 3L. Any advice is appreciated.

Thanks,
Scott

Thanks GA and Roscoe. I looked up the repair kit and notice it doesn't include anything for the fuel pump. Glad to see it has a needle, seat, and float but I'm looking for a complete kit. Is this something I just need to source seperately?

Individual parts can be bought at Crowley, or a Merc dealer, if they are available.

Scroll the list.
Diaphram is part # 31.

Hi. If it is a 1983 It will be a Yamaha engine. Mercury are unlikely to be able to help you, I’d think.

Thanks QBhoy. Seems like Yamaha and maybe Tohatsu were in on these Mariners back then. I ended up ordering an aftermarket carb. For the price of the kit along with the additional parts I wanted it was close enough to the price of a new unit. I'll keep the original as a backup.

I know the engine is almost 40 years old but boy has it been a challenge to cross reference information on this one. Seems like everyone was throwing parts on these. New carb comes in Friday and I'm headed out this weekend. Update coming early next week.

Should just be the old Yamaha 9.9/15hp engine. Loads of them still about, here in the U.K. indestructible things.

New carb works a charm. Took it out for the last two days and it was like I bought it new. Now I just need to figure out the fish.
