Hello again,

I am going to get the control cables for my remote box to the motor replaced. I have a side console with remote throttle and gear cables, side wall mounted control box. I currently have very long (too long) cables on the boat that I purchased, and I am going to pick up a new set of 12 foot cables for it. Just wondering what is a fair price I can expect to pay for a mechanic to remove the old cables and install the new shorter cables for me, NOT including the price of the cables, but just for his labor? Thanks.

It is a simple job that you can do yourself.----You must be willing to try and follow instructions.-----Get the correct cables first.-----Picture of your control box ?----Is it single lever or 2 levers ?

Did you take your cables that are to long and make a big hoop near the motor? Lots of people do including me.
Yes, There is a HUGE loop in the cables and they are in the way right now actually. I think they are probably about a 16 or even 18 feet long. I don't know why the previous owner used cables this long but I got some 12 footers today which will be the right size.
EDIT: There WAS a huge loop that I errored on and tied it into a tighter loop to clen it up. Was not thinking and I displaced the fast idle lever by doing that. Hoping it just came undone inside the box.

I picked up some new cables today. They are 12 footers & that's what I need rounded up to give me a nice clean loop. It is the one lever type control box. No trim switch involved. I took one apart years ago and I might just try it again. I just am not sure of the motor end as I do not want to mess up any adjustments that are good right now. I made the error of tying the big loops together with some wire ties to clean up all of the long cables at the stern area, and now I got the fast idle level out of place, so I need to take the box apart anyway to make the repair. Hopefully, I did not break the nylon part in there for that lever. There are plenty of used control boxes in my area on a sales forum and they look real decent & reasonably priced if I do need a replacement.
