1983 90hp on a 1986 150hp trim & swivel bracket??

I have a now working trim unit and swivel bracket from a 1986 Mercury 150 V6.

I also have a complete nice 1983 90hp I6 which of course has the older trim unit on with the non-BIA bolt pattern.

My question is can I put the newer tilt/trim swivel bracket on the older I6 motor??

I think it can be done but probably needs a 1984 or newer I6 99661a2 swivel pin. Is there anything else needed or is it possible? Problems??

It can be swapped as long as you use a new style (3 ram) Inline swivel bracket.

Thanks for the reply!!

Since the V6 swivel bracket is the same part # does that mean my V6 swivel bracket works also?? It looks the same as my 1984 90hp inline swivel bracket.

Do you happen to know what is different between the earlier inline swivel pin, the newer inline swivel pin, and the v6 swivel pin?

I have the 1983 inline swivel pin and an early 1977 V6 swivel pin but I do not have the later 1984-1988 inline swivel pin(which I think I may need to make it work).

I may just take the 90 apart to see what is different, I should just sell it and find a 1984-1988 115 for my Hydrostream Viper.

Gee, I would not think the V motor and the inline motor had the same engine block bolt pattern.

They are not the same block block pattern as Inline is narrower. If parts #s are the same it should swap out. The new 3 ram trim has pads where the trim rams push against swivel bracket and recess where tilt cylinder attaches. A 1977 does nnot have this as its a twin ram system.

Ok, the swivel bracket attaches to the driveshaft housing(mid) via engine mounts to the swivel pin(upper) and a bracket on the swivel pin(lower mounts).

In picture one the swivel bracket and Trim unit from a 1986 150 V6 that I have from a recent swap where I put the powerhead, adapter, and tuner on a 1977 175 mid/swivel bracket trim unit. DSCI0450.jpg

And then a photo of a 1984 90hp merc with the newer 3 ram swivel bracket /trim system.DSCI0451.jpg

The next one is from the 1983 90hp which is of course the old twin ram system.DSCI0452.jpg

The question really is does anyone know if I need the swivel pin(99661a2 ) like the one for the 1984 90hp to fit the 1986 150 V6 swivel bracket/trim unit on to the 1983 90hp motor?

Or/and/also what is different on the swivel pins, is it something that may be made to fit reasonably easy(like cutting down the upper motor mount bosses?) or is it a big enough difference to require the correct pin(motor mount bosses too wide etc.?

Also, the swivel pin is actually for the 1986 150 v6 not a 1977 V6 as I previously stated.

I looks like the swivel pin is both too long on a V6 and also mounting bosses too wide. The swivel pin also changes diameter from 1983 to 1984 so...

This means the answer likely is the 99661A2 Swivel pin and also the 99644T bottom yoke is necessary to complete the project. Considering the prices people are asking for them I'll probably forget about it until I find them for less than 100$ shipped.
