Re: 1983 140 omc fuel pouring out of orifice in carb

judging from the carbs and the heads i would assume he just took a 115 and assumed he would have a 140 if he put the bigger high speed jets in. i think i'll start off with making sure i have all the correct size jets for a 115 with 1 3/16 carbs. so i will be replacing the 67 with a 60 high speed jet and i will check the mid range jet. is there a low speed jet or just the idle air jet that i should check as far as low speed jetting is concerned?

You are probably correct. The prior owner may have only changed the high speed jets.... You can check what should be in the carbs from the factory parts lists which are online: epc.brp.com. Find your year and model, then look up the jets for the carbs. It should run markedly better with the right jets in the carbs.

just took the jets out of one of the carbs. he was running 69 high speed 30 mids and 28 idle air jets. looking at the parts list onlinethese carbs should have 60 high speed 27 mids and 34 idle air jets

ok i finally got a chance to work on the boat again. here's what i found. since i ordered the jets i thought i might as well replace the reed block gaskets while the manifold was off. well in doing so i found that the cylinder that was having the spit back problem had the reed block gasket installed the wrong way and was partially blocking the intake flow and i assume was acting as a deflector. even though it was only about a 1/16" of gasket in the way this couldn't be a good thing.

so after all gaskets replaced. new (correct size) jets installed and some adjustments to idle. no more spit back, great idle at around 900 rpm and very surprising crisp throttle response. i am stoked and can't wait for a water test!

thanks to all who chimed in and helped me out with these issues. your knowledge is greatly appreciated!!
