Hey guys, just picked up another motor. Couldn't pass it up for 75$. The guy said it was locked up. He's not the original owner,so he doesn't know the history so he says. I haven't really tore into it yet. Can't turn the flywheel by hand. Motor doesn't show signs of overheating (no discoloration to head). gonna pull the plugs and put some oil in the cylinders. What type of oil/lubricant is best? Thanks

Might be the gearcase locked, not the powerhead. I'd pull the leg off and check before proceeding.

my 9622a (seized) needed help....off came the cyl head soaked cyl with PB blaster, marvel oil etc... for 2 weeks

then slowy jarred the cyl by alternating with a round 12 inch x 1 inch peg and a hammer till my flywheel "Scripto" referrence mark moved a bit

soaked a few more days bang bang a few more tries with the hammer/peg and my referrence mark moved again

then one day...success

it is now my kicker along my 75hp etec

Hey Crosbyman, as expected I pulled the head and rusty water came out. Gonna follow the same process as you? Little bit of rust built up on cylinder walls. What should I do about that?

I am no expert in rust but personaly I would just get the pistons moving properly

surface rust will likely get removed. experts here can guide you on honing the cyl walls by cross hatching if no gouges are present.

hopefully the innards aren't rusted....you may have a 75$ anchor or a good runner but I have never done inside work on a motor . you could pull the fuel pump and spray some oil inside the crankcase cavity via the air pulse hole ..can't hurt i guess

step one is to get it moving. imho.

Thx. Hopefully it’s just a little surface rust. I probably won’t hone the cylinders.. Just going to try and get it moving first. Thx again...

Once you get it moving, do remove the leg and inspect/replace the water pump.

If you can free the pistons up, you may find pits in the cylinder walls where the rings were sitting. If deep, no hone will save it. Keep digging.
