1982 70hp evinrude thermostat question

1982 70hp evinrude

I have had this motor 10 years and I have never done anything with the thermostat. I trailer it to salt water.

I thought I remember reading in the past people removing or bypassing the thermostat for some reason?

Anyway, is it pretty much assumed that I do have a thermostat and should replace it because of age. I'm guessing it will be very salty/corroded, possible stuck bolts I don't know

Right now everything works fine

I would replace it because it is a saltwater motor the thermostat is a restriction can get some build up there.
