i just got the evi and it had no lower unit i kno that this is the fist year with thru prop exaust. i also have a 70's johnson lower unit and i can get the ogiinal drive shaft for the evi is there a way to put that in my johnsons lower than on my new motor or what other years arcompatable with my evy please help i got to get bac on the water and AWAY FROM THIS COMPUTER

i kno that this is the fist year with thru prop exaust.

I believe you will find this is incorrect.....thru prop hub exhaust did not appear on any Johnnyrude 25hp that i know of until 1985.....according to your model number the motor will accept the correct older style "commercial" LU only.

If its the commercial style lower unit from a similar capacity motor then quite possibly.....you really need to know what model the Johnson LU came off though for anybody to be certain.

In principle you may be able to bolt up any of the split-type gearbox used on 20-25 from late 70 and up to the commercial's late 80's. It is however a small detail to look out for and that is the clutch-dog and gears. The older ones and the 20 boxes use a 2-lug dog and gear, you should try finding a 3-lug type or it may not last long!
